Power loss, boxes rebooted and stuck on Downloading Initial Application.....

Two days in a row now I had temp. power loss resulting in two cable boxes rebooting. Yesterday both boxes got stuck on L-11 after a reboot. A service rep sent a couple of refresh signals and eventually both boxes booted up 1 by 1. Took about 30 min. total. Today after rebooting from another temp. power loss, both boxes were stuck on Downloading Initial Application. Service rep sent a refresh signal but it didn't do anything and both boxes were stuck on Downloading initial Application. I rebooted the boxes again and left them alone for about 20 minutes. Now they are both on L-3 which takes another 15-20 minutes. My question is, why are the boxes taking this long to boot up? Bad switch?

Thanks.

One of two things,

Likely a signal issue when the boxes lost power each time.  You will need to contact Spectrum for a signal and drop line test.  Outside wiring or the main tap may have taken a hit.  To prepare.  Avoid resetting any boxes, modems, or routers prior to your service call for six hours.  This resets the error codes to zero.  The tech needs to read the error codes.

Swapped boxes will not fix bad signals, so the single and line testing must be done first.  Lowe signals can cause longer boot-ups.

The second issue could be the box starting to go bad due to a power spike or serge from the power loss.  The tech will replace the box if signals are good.  Reboot time should take between 5 minutes on a new box to 20 minutes on an older box.  Let the tech know about the power loss in your area.

Do you know what caused the power outage in your area?

Thanks for the reply. No idea what causes these short power blackouts. We get about 10 of these power interruptions a year, and they each last for about 15-20 seconds. It's not just my house, but pretty much the entire block goes out.  Have reported it to Los Angeles Department of Power and Water and they just don't care enough to send someone out. Man Frustrated
