Digital Greeting/New Customers/Power Up

How do you disable the Spectrum "New Digital" greeting everytime you first power up your cable box /TV. Remembering seeing a link they provided to disable this greeting through your Spectrum account. However can't find that hyper link. TIA

Hi Douglas,

You cannot disable the new customer power up prompt.  What is the make and model of your cable box?  The "New Digital" Greeting is based on the software loaded onto the box.  It should be showing up only after any one of the following conditions are met:

1.) The box is first plugged in and activated on a new account.

2,) There is a software update being applied to the box.  (Typically overnight between 12am-5am, often on Tuesday mornings.)

3.) The box is turned on following a commercial power failure.

4.) The box has been unplugged previously.

For traditional cable use, powering off the box. TV, or both, using the Cable buttons on the remote or the Power button on the box, should NOT produce this type of behavior when the box is turned back on.  When the box is turned on, assuming none of the four above conditions have occurred, you should be seeing a program on your TV within about 20-30 seconds of turning on the box.  Some box software also shows the Quick Start Menu with box features, (Watch TV, Caller ID. Search, On Demand, DVR.) for about 10-15 seconds after activating the box.

Use the arrow keys and Select/OK button to take action on these features, Exit to dismiss the Menu.  The Menu button to bring up the Quick Start Menu.  If you are getting the box booting up with the circumstances that you described, and none of the above four conditions have happened, the box is not maintaining A/C outlet power when turned off, and a tech visit or box swap may be required to check signals going to the box, or to replace the box itself.

@Satchmakes a good but subtle point here:  Your set-top box or DVR needs to remain powered at all times.  Do NOT plug it into a switched outlet strip and then turn it off or unplug it every night.  If you do, you won't get any channel updates and your 'last viewed' channel will be forgotten.  Obviously a DVR will also be unable to record your favorite programs while the power is switched off.
