Cable signal into DVR box from WIFI modem - can it be done?

I need to place my wifi modem in a more central location to enable reception in other parts of my house. The problem is that the inbound cable jack is where I connect my DVR/cable box. If I connect my modem to this jack and then run USB or Ethernet cable from the modem to my DVR, will I still have acceptable TV reception? Or do I need to use a coax splittter and send one cable to the modem and one to the DVR? Or will that cause me to lose too much signal strength by sharing? Thanks for any advice.

All present outside connections are via RG6 coaxial cable. Either line after the 2 way splitter can be extended via RG6 cable.

There's no ethernet option like with Uverse.
