UGH THIS INTERNET

I added home phone to my services and they switched my modem to an arris tg682. Now my roommate cannot access the wifi without his connection completely cutting off. I have myself direct connected and it lags and freezes when we play games online. I ran a test to see what is going on and nothing, the speed reads as what we should get. I am posting my numbers but they won't show there is a problem:

I need help bad, or else I might have to get rid of TWC and get DSL because this is just HORRIBLE service I am paying for. I should be able to play a game on my pc and my roommate should be able to play on their PC too without ANY problems like we are.

Oh and don't say it is distance either I have my laptop right on top the modem but I am still experiencing this crap signal. I feel like buying the phone was just a mistake too.

Re: UGH THIS INTERNET

Anyone have an idea if there is a better modem I could use for the internet AND phone that isn't an arris?

Re: UGH THIS INTERNET

I have a arris SB6140 cable modem and a seperate Asus 3200 wifi router. I am able to get 60meg bits download over wifi on my TWC Extreem internet connection in a rural Ohio community. My guess is they the built in wifi capabilities of the modem they gave you is poor. My Asus 3200 has 6 external antennas, and has 3 wifi channels.

This is TWC's approved Cable modem list.

By by owning the cable modem they do not charge you rental so it eventually pays for itself. I recommend getting a seperate modem and wifi router if you can afford them. That way you can spend more on a higher end wifi router.

your cable modem will have to have a telephone jack, which limits which modems you can choose from, but do the research I'm sure you can find a better solution.

Re: UGH THIS INTERNET

What was the original modem?

what does a tracert to google.com look like?

need to see both computers tracert's

Levels look good but I don't like the partial service errors in the log.

 Is something running IPv6?

Both my laptop and the pc in question are over 4 years old so not sure if they run ipv6. I also have a ps4 [at the moment it is shut off completely] and I have one of those 49.99 kindle fire 7" tablets that is currently not connected to the wifi [again not sure if that is ipv6 either]

Well I was thinking of pretty much using my own modem for the internet anyway, and I was thinking of getting a modem and router seperate because an internal wifi seems to not really bear a lot of good results. I've read somewhere that with a modem with internal wifi the signal can come out very weak or something like that. I have been looking into some options but right now I just don't have the money.

Re: UGH THIS INTERNET

My guess is the phone service messed up speed and the wireless radio has worst coverage than the 6580.

 Both are 8x4 bonding

You're in the old insight area in Ohio, that's a problem as well.

Both tracert's are ok

Re: UGH THIS INTERNET

I have a suggestion you might try, if you are in an apt building or dense neighborhood you may have a signal coming from a neighbor that is interfering with yours, the algo they use for choosing channels automatically are no darned good...  IF you have an android phone get wifi analyzer or look at your notebook network connections, and other SSID and channels in your neighborhool are they are on the same channel?< If so pick a channel that is clear and set it manually to 1 6 or 11 .. Wifi analyzer from Google Play is a  great tool for checking locala wifi signals and possible interference, pick a clean one oro.. claan(ER) one if you can.
