Yes 6121. Still why would it slow down only in the evenings and weekends?

But if you tell me to swap it I could.sure I get 55MB during the day versus 10MB at night....

everything get's more critical when traffic is at peak....

Especially if the problem is at other customers on the same node, they tie up the system, slowing it down.

 

Also, evenings usually have lower electric line voltages and that's when flakey power supplies manifest themselves.

Usually on 6121-41's they show a power reset error when that happens

And COAM modems are always blamed first before TWC phone support will admit there's a problem

so MsRaye, would you recommend me to swap the modem? getting it from timewarner? if that doesn't do jack, then return it and go back to my old one...I guess I can do that.

 

You see, the situation is not catastrophic. 10-20MB is still enough for me to do what I have to do.

 

It is just if I am paying for 50MB, I would like to get 50MB and not 10-20.

 

Example now it is 5.50PM I am getting 40MB. The slow down has begun, give it 1-2 hours and I am down to 10-20MB...

A twc rental's probably going to be an 8x4 or 16x4 and those might perform differently, probably better

 Compare tracert's to google.com when speeds are good vs bad. Hop 2-3 usually indicates an overloaded node

ping plotter with the min & max columns will show the speed averages compared to best and worst.

 

 If there's a lot of customers with bad connections, they'll slow down the entire node especially during evening hours

That will usually be the 2nd hop at the CMTS, the 3rd hop is the server at the head end

copy and paste a tracert to google.com now, that will show ping timing when you're slow

 

 There may also be an issue running 6121's on widely spaced channels. the test one I have here will only grab 4 adjacent channels. which is only a 24 mHz bandwidth, yours is on 54 mHz .... I don't know if a firmware upgrade fixed those or not....

the SB6141's are advertised as having a "DUAL 96 mHz capture window" and 48 mHz downstream bandwidth

no mention of capture windows on the 6121's...

 the SB 6183's have a "full bandwidth capture window 108-1002 mHz"

 

Explains why i found a huge surplus lot of working 6121's "not useable on 16 ch systems".....

 

 what i would do is: unplug modem for 15 minutes, plug it back in, see if you can get 4 channels in a row and see if that performs better

like 1-2-3-4 or 5-6-7-8.

 Good luck getting TWC to reprogram the CMTS....they won't,, will tell you to buy a newer modem.

unplug modem for a few minutes, plug it back in, see if you can get it locked onto 4 consequetive channels with no skips and if that improves your speeds..

Hi MsRaye,

working from my home office today so I was able to do a tracert with 58MB download speed (just tested).

Also this morning Timewarner disconnected me (without notice for about 15 minutes), not sure if they did anything good. Anyway, unsurpisingly it is 10AM and they grass is green, the sky is blue, look at the value below. As usual, I suspect It will be  a different story tonight...

here are my levels in the morning...clocking 63MB

I did notice the channels are almost adjacent, except for 15...also the power level 7 dBmV   vs 1dBmV   a week ago (at night). I will definitely retest tonight...
