Re: Still having terrible speeds- fluctuates- 4 months running

Okay so I'm not sure what I'm looking to see...I ran ping plotter overnight. Set it to ping Google every five seconds. Looked pretty good this morning. The average was close to the minimum over all hops.

I tried to connect via Google remote desktop to my PC via my phone. Said my PC had been offline 15 mins. Went in and finally connected after five minutes. Looked at ping plotter still running and it's showing this at one point:

I run speed of.me test and it's hitting 18mbps with 33ms ping. Does the 100%packet loss on first hop tell me where the issue is?

The rest of the pings were really bad and that lasted a few minutes as I watched it.

That looks like the router is set to ignore pings, but why did it start working later?

Also, add the MAX column to ping plotter

Okay, so I'm sitting here July 6 at 4PM, watched 2 episodes on netflix at 1080p on the roku hardwired to the router via ethernet, no issues. No issues last night. Then around 4:40, the streaming started to buffer, very low quality video...ran into the other room to the PC fired up ping plotter and speed test- speeds are maxing out less than 100kbps. This is what ping plotter showed:

Then 5 mins (?) later, as  I watched ping plotter show crazy high numbers...it suddenly all got better, and showed the following (and speed test confirmed a speed of 19mbps)...

I rescheduled the tech visit for tomorrow because I had to take care of something this morning. I'm not sure what to tell him or how to resolve. Hopefully he has an idea- if not, I will complain until they escalate then, get the lines in the area looked at, whatever it takes to resolve this. At this point, it's just absurd.

My cable modem logs show no alerts for today at all.

So, as I typed that message, it started to fluctuate again. Ping plotter shows that the speeds dropped again then shot back up then down, up, down...

Just more info- I don't see anything in a utility room in terms of wires coming out anywhere. It's all buried...

I see this outside my building.

These are the wires from the building next to mine....

I looked all over- no poles anywhere in the neighborhood.

Also, speeds are still fluctuating. All over the place. Every min or so they get good then pings shoot up to thousands of millseconds. Then back to 30 or so, then back up to 2000ms.

Re: Still having terrible speeds- fluctuates- 4 months running

Sorry - one more thing...the packet loss on the first ping to the router is usually really low, often zero, so I'm not sure what that means and why sometimes it's 100%...you said maybe it's set to ignore pings but wouldn't it always say 100% if that was the case or no?

Thanks much.

Rebooted modem, 5 mins later, I get this:

Then back to good pings...

Then 2 mins later:

Re: Still having terrible speeds- fluctuates- 4 months running

The orange cable is "flooded" direct burial rated, not sure if the black is flooded and rated...  Flooded is filled with a sticky parafin goo to keep water out.

Pop up the cover and get a picture of what's inside the pedestal... need to see if there's a hardline tapoff or a pile of loose splitters.  Is the white splotch on the black cable next to the plastic conduit paint or is it wheed wacker damage exposing the foil shield?

Re: Still having terrible speeds- fluctuates- 4 months running

Change the ping interval to 10 seconds.... 2.5 is too fast and *ing out the hop 1 time r which is 3 seconds...
