Hello, would love some insight and guidance, our connection is dropping off and on all day. Is there anything we can do prior to calling a tech out? Thank you

From the main tap to the modem, is there a splitter? Do you also have DVR boxes? Have you been able to check all the connectors to make sure they are all tight and coax for any obvious signs of damage like hungry squirrels or standing water in the pedestal ?

 

The downstream power levels are pretty low while the upstream levels are very high.

Thank you for your reply. No DVR boxes. Yes, there is a splitter from the main tap. We updated and replaced the splitter yesterday to see if would resolve, no luck there. We checked the connection that goes to the router, the cable looked fine but we went ahead and updated it anyways. No resolve with that. We removed one connection that was not in use. We have two more to look at that goto tv hook-ups that aren't currently in use but we'd like to keep. We didn't see any standing water, the cables and splitters all look old but no visible signs of damage that we've been able to see.  Should we continue with replacing any other cables and splitters?

Sounds like you may have extra splits dropping signal a tad too much, as well as unterminated lines causing a little too much noise. Any connected line needs to have something at the end, be that a device or termination cap. Also shouldn't have any unused connections on a splitter.

In other words, if you are only using two lines, ideally it should be a two-way splitter with only those two lines connected.

It can get weird if you need an odd number of lines because of how insertion losses and reflection/noise can come into play, so typically you will be wired up on incrememts of 2.

So, in the short term, make sure you are running just a 2-way splitter for the two lines in play. If you don't have one, it will need to be one that will cover at least 400mhz to 1000mhz frequency range, with low loss (noted to be -3.5db preferred... lower quality ones can actually go between -3.7 and -4.0).

In the mean time, get some termination caps for the unused lines. This way when you need to start using one of them, you can hook them up to a 4-way splitter and leave the unused one terminated properly to avoid noise ingress.

If reducing it to two lines clears things up, keep in mind you will likely have issues if you go back to breaking it out to more lines in the future. It may call for some more aggressive tweaking... like running lower loss cabling (RG6 if the home still has rg59, or even rg11 from the street to the house if it is more than 200 feet), or perhaps some form of amplification from Spectrum's side.

EDIT: Afterthought... some older homes will have cabling daisy-chained, so you have 2-way splitters behind 2-way splitters. This can make for a LOT of signal loss the further through the house you go. In such cases, it often pays off well to run a dedicated RG6 quad-shield line from the modem directly to where the feed comes into the home. This way you can ensure the modem gets the strongest signal possible.

@James_M Thank you for your suggestion. The tech came out today and made a change, removed a splitter and did a direct hook-up. Seemed faster but within a little over an hour of him leaving, the connection dropped again.

 

Here are the errors since he left. I'm assuming that means we still have the same issue going on? Do I need to have the tech back out based on these errors? Advisement would be appreciated, thank you.

Update as of this morning, I was added to escalation yesterday for the tech to return. That didn't end up happening, so I should be hearing something this morning from them. As a recap, the tech removed the splitter and hooked up just the active line. Is there anything I can tell them based on these logs that would help them look further or in a more accurate direction?

Those signal levels in the last snapshot look decent enough.

Barring some electrical/overheating issues (bad power supply, internal failures, etc.), it would appear things may be in spec on your end. Which would put to question what may be happening on Spectrum's side of the line.

A new tech came out and changed the lines from the pole to my house, also swapped out modem and router. Connectivity issue is resolved. Thanks everyone!
