Nightly high ping (200-300ms+) for months regardless of modem

Since, TWC phone support and techs have not figured this one out I'm coming to you guys for help since there appears to be a much higher understanding of the technology on these boards.

So, for a couple of years now I've been getting huge lag spikes particularly in the evenings but not limited to evenings.  I've been through 3 TWC cablemodems and many Tech visits.  The last visit the Tech replaced the COAX from the junction box in the corner of our lawn to the house and all of the splitters that TWC originally put in.  He also switched us from an Arris to an Ubee (he claimed the Ubee was much better :-\).  The problem got marginally better but still at night I've been getting huge latency issues.  I've tried resetting the modem, unplugging the modem, etc to no avail.

Here is the info I could gather from the cablemodem settings:

Ubee Hardware Version : 3.26.1

TWC Model: DVW32CB

Unfortunately, I do not see any log options/pages.

Service area: Austin, TX

Services: Ultimate 50 (300mbps), Telephone, DVR

No external router for about 4 years (per requirement of TWC to diagnose problems)

Wired connection (does same on wireless as well)

Ping of local redirect server that is the typical culprit:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Are you running any sort of cloud, sync, onedrive , or IPv6 on any machine?

Is there wireless congestion like in an apartment or dense housing?

No cloud, sync, or onedrive.
I believe IPv6 on my main machine.
This is a residential neighborhood but not sure how many folks have TWC internet as that and ATT are the only two options here.
Again, this is using hardwire/ethernet connection. I have confirmed it is also present if I try on my work laptop via wireless and also wired.

paste a tracert to google.com when tatency is low and another when it's high.

Is that high ping always starting at hop 3 or is it only on hop 3?

?

Re: Nightly high ping (200-300ms+) for months regardless of modem

Probably 75% of the time it is limited to that 3rd hop (redirect router) but will sometimes be beyond that as well.

Here is tracert google.com (looks like IPv6) for this morning.....lower latency right now:

Here is the path as of this morning (better but still bad):

Turn off IPv6 if you don't need it.

See if that stabilizes latency.

Re: Nightly high ping (200-300ms+) for months regardless of modem

I feel your frustation but the chances of getting TWC to address the issue is next to nothing. My guess would be that the node that you are on has been over allocated and that when everybody gets online in the evening the node is unable to handle the load. TWC WILL NOT admit to this and if you ask them to show you that the node has not been over allocated, they will tell you that they have no way to see that.

I have had many technicians come out to investigate and nothing has come of it. As long as you can get to the internet they have met their service level agreement and will bill you for the service and that is where it will stop.

Re: Nightly high ping (200-300ms+) for months regardless of modem

OP needs to turn off IPv6.... TWC has it's routing messed up and it interferes with IPv4. It gets worst during prime time when useage is high

Re: Nightly high ping (200-300ms+) for months regardless of modem

@MsRaye I'll disable IPv6 but honestly I don't think that'll resolve it since this is the first time (since I got this latest cablemodem) that I've tried it to see if that would resolve my issues I was having. I was hoping maybe you all around here would spot some obvious problem that the techs do not even know to look for (i.e. they have never once even looked at signals on my cablemodem when they come in person).  I believe by default Windows 10 has IPv6 enabled so I had to disable it on my network card :-\

Tech is coming again tomorrow. We'll see what he says.

I'll see how it does tonight with IPv6 disabled.
