Microsoft's Statement Regarding Flash Player Removal (Dec. 31, 2020)

Dear Spectrum,

What follows is the statement from Microsoft regarding the eventual REMOVAL OF FLASH  PLAYER FROM ALL BROWSERS VIA WINDOWS UPDATES AND BROWSER UPDATES BY DECEMBER 31, 2020.

Regardless of how you have Flash configured in your browsers now, January 20, 2020, whether you have it set to "block", "ask before running" , or "always run" (Not Recommended), plans will be in effect that Flash will be removed from all modern browsers through updates by the end of 2020, perhaps sooner.  This includes Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

If you have an older system such as Windows 7 or below, and IE for your browser, Flash Player will still run.  Last version of IE 11  will still run Flash, However, all versions of IE and versions of Windows below 8.1 are no longer supported, and are vulnerable to security issues. So if you use IE and Flash on these systems, it will be a security risk,  IE 11 is very old and has security flaws.

Using IE just to run Flash Player is not recommended. IE 11 is ONLY being updated on Windows 10 machines with minimal patches and support, because Windows 10 is a service, and the goal is to support Windows 10 for the lifetime of the device on which it runs.  However, far more secure , modern, and faster browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge, are now recommended.  It is time to ditch Internet Explorer.

Spectrum will need to implement into action, a safer video player format for mobile devices and their websites that run Flash currently. HTML5 is a strongly recommended replacement for Flash Player. I would recommend that this notice be pinned by our mods to keep an awareness of timelines and changes to our Flash experiences as new software replaces this format.

Spectrum isn't the only company that needs to get on the ball and  convert their browser video player from Flash to HTML5, DirectTV still uses Flash for its video player and it's just a big mess.

Yep. They all better hurry up before Adobe  finally stops supporting Flash in the end of 2020.
