Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

On day one of the Maxx upgrade (5/12 for me), I was able to get 350 down.  Since then, my speeds have been decreasing and I'm currently averaging around 150-180, with occasional drops to 90-ish and a few spikes up to about 220.  Of course, I've tried all the usual stuff: reset the modem, bypass all of my networking equipment, make a pointless phone call to TWC, etc.  I did have a slight concern, regarding one piece of equipment, as I saw another post where a user ended up replacing the same item.

My network setup is as follows:

Moto SB6183 > Dell Optiplex 755 running Untangle NG Firewall (dual-port Intel Pro/1000 NIC) > Dell Powerconnect 2708 managed gigabit switch > Asus RT-N66U in the back of my apartment (demoted to switch / AP duty).  The firewall machine handles the routing duties.

I bypassed my inernal network, using my laptop, but the adapter is a cheap USB 3.0 gigabit adapter and the speeds actually seemed worse.  I then decided to bypass the RT-N66U by running a cable directly from the Dell switch to my desktop.  All cables are Cat 5e and the one I ran to the desktop is one I made myself and checked with a qualifier.  I feel like I thoroughly covered my bases.

I called TWC and have an appointment on Tuesday but I'm afraid the tech won't find anything.  Unfortunately, I don't have much in my event log at this time but I'm posting the signal levels and log anyway, in hopes that maybe something will stand out to someone who knows more about cable modems than myself.

Edit: Just thought I should mention that my upload is great, with an average of around 23 up.

Re: Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

You're getting a lot of T3 errors. Probably an upstream issue, but

Don't reset the modem and repost the signal page in an hour, need to see corrected/uncorrecteds

I suspect noise ingress, possibly broadcast TV channels 47& 49 by the lower s/n

what's your zip code?

Re: Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

I'm in 47130.  It's been an hour since my last post, so I was going to repost the signal info but the corrected / uncorrectables are still zeros across the board.  They rarely increase.  I think the highest I've seen has been in the low to mid double digits after a couple of weeks without a reboot, and that's only been on a couple of channels.

Edited to add that the event log hasn't changed, either.

Re: Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

I should also add that I have a friend about 3/4 of a mile from me who is having the exact same issues, though he says we're on different nodes.  I have no idea how much area one node covers, so I'll take his word for it.

I HAD the Maxx upgrade, for a few months, then LOST it, andd am now back to 20/2 instead of 100/10, and it's VERY noticable.

But TWC DID sent me a notice that Max is coming.  But NOT when.  Or why it WAS here, but now isn't.

Oh well..

Re: Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

Do a test at lowest peak time of day in the middle of  the night very early morning, see if the numbers go up. double digit uncorrecteds is good(out of a few million)

Re: Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

I had someone call me yesterday and ask me to run a speed test.  I had a little trouble understanding her but she said something about a known issue in my area and something about the signal strength being below TWC's standards.  The signal page on my modem doesn't look any different, really, other than one channel showing around 46 uncorrectables (the other channels are still at 0).  I have no idea what was actually going on but I'm now getting 345-350 down, consistently, and 25 up.

I have no idea why I didn't think of that.  It's always the little things that get me.  :-P

Re: Maxx upgrade, slower downloads than expected.

Uncorrecteds at a really low % aren't an issue, but if gaming or streaming video, they upset normal packet flow and timing calibration. 1 in 1 mil is ok, 1 in 100k isn't too much of an issue, but one in 10k is bad
