Internet issues at night while gaming

Hello, I've been dealing with a timeout or connectivity issue for the past month. Usually when im gaming i get this weird mirco lag or stutter. The best way i can describe the issue is when im in a the game during a firefight i teleport 2 seconds forward or 2 seconds backwards.

I went looking into my modem to see if there were any issues.

I did notice last night my downstream power went up to about 8.5 dbmv when the issues were occuring. Also it isn't very cold out, i would say around 40's at night.

Varying power levels are an issue, a change of 2 dB is serious and will cause t3 and DS partial service errors.

Make sure all connections are tight and there's no open splitter ports or cables off to empty wallplates connected

This may be chewed up overhead lines. TWC needs to come out.

2dbmv is a pretty big fluctuation. You need to have a Tier 3 rep setup a device watch on your modem at the very least to monitor fluctuations.

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

I recently had a tech come out and check everything. He changed a splitter, connectors and said he plugged me into port one on the tap. The drop line from the tap to my house is new and the wiring from the splitter outside to my modem is new with all new fittings aswell. I rechecked all the connections and they are all tight.

Right now its 9:12pm in california and the weather is in the low 60's in my area. It isn't as cold as last night, but it's leading me to believe that the weather is causing the flucuation in db's. What i do notice about the drop line is there isnt really any slack from the midspan to my house and i feel that tension from no slack maybe causing an issue since its cold or my other guess would be the tap is bad? I've spoke to my neighbor and he said hes having similar issues while gaming at night.

I want to call about this issue again, but im trying to source of some type of facts to what im trying to bring to them. The last technican that came out said if i have another issue like this and ask for a tech to come out i will be charged.

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

Also looking at the tap i believe its an 8 port i could be wrong, but i do notice two splitters up there. Would that cause an issue?

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

Uncorrecteds haven't gone up whicjh is a good thing

The level shifts are a problem , if your neighbor is also having issues, I don't think it's the tight overhead span.

This is probably a line amp

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

Sorry i forgot to mention that the drop from the tap to the splitter at my house is for my house and my neigbors.

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

Ok, so there's one span for both houses?

Where's the 2 way splitter?

How does it look?

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

Correct, splitter is outside my house looks new.

Re: Internet issues at night while gaming

Up on the pole, there's an 8 way tap off block and a couple dangling splitters feeding a total of 10 houses?

 (11 including your neighbors)

There could be a problem in your neighbors house causing the level shifts.  Your levels are awfully high and I don't think you're going thru a splitter up on the pole.

This could also be a span issue, if it's too tight, the center wire might be sucked back at one or both ends or the line might have electrical damage.Don't know if TWC has TDR's to sweep cable, they should just replace it.

Where's the grounding block located?

Does it look new?
