Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

I've read the forums and looks like I'm not the only one having this problem.  Paying for 100/10, intermittenly getting 1.5 or less Up, 10 down.

Arris- 6141.  Zip- 27587.

Tech has been out and says everything looks good- must be my modem.  I've got a new one on the way, but after reading the forums, looks like its probably not my modem.

Any advise on the magic to say to their techs/phone support folks to get this fixed would be appreciated.

Re: Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

Tech is wrong, you have bad ingress on several channels from broadcast tv ch's 36,38,42 and probably more.

Were all connectors and the outside grounding block replaced?

modem should be locking on 8 downstream channels but they're probably worst

Something shielded is broken, corroded or loose, there may be too many splitters or open ports.

Try unplugging the modem for a minute, plug it back in, then copy and paste the signal level page after a couple minutes

Re: Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

Thx for the prompt repsonse.

Tech checked nothing when he visited.

Here we are after a reboot.  Of course the speed issue is gone after reboot everytime.  Doesn't last though.

TWC has replaced nothing.

Re: Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

repost level page again, let's see what the correcteds and uncorrecteds went up to.

Can you get a picture of the outside grounding block? Let's see how corroded it is....

If the drop line is overhead and goes thru trees, it's probably chewed up by the squirells

Re: Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

That looks corroded to me, break nuts loose with a 7/16 or crescent wrench, re snug them down.

Make sure the connector at the modem is more than finger tight as well.

Your corrections didn't go up, so it appears to be an intermittent, not a continuous problem, may be out at the street pedestal...

or worst yet, down the street somewhere.

Re: Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

I'm having the same problem, Ultimate 100 subscription, frequently drops down to 1Mbps down, but never has upload speed problems. A reboot always helps.

TWC has replaced everything from well up the street, to my post, and at the house. Connections are fresh & good. I'm using my own Motorola SB6141.

Reading this thread, it looks like I should check the Signal Stats (Codewords) section of the modem's signal page when the problem occurs.

Is that a good first start?

Re: Intermittent downstream speed issues: Lost MDD Timeout...

Copy and paste the modems signal level page right after a reset and then again in a few hours.

Also your zip code and the error log a few hours after a reset, Need to see if there's DS partial service. and what channels are having issues.
