Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

As a lot of folks on this forum, I'm experiencing intermittent problems with my internet connection. I'm subscribing to the 50/5 service and while it works fine most of the time, the past 2 weeks, service has been getting worse and worse. My modem is rebooting or re-establishing the connection several times a day.

I had a Motorola 6141 that kept rebooting, so I decided to get a Netgear CM500 since I read some folks saw their problems go away using that modem. Unfortunately the problem seems to be worse with it.

I've checked all my connections, both at the modem and outside at the grounding block. Re-tightened the connections after confirming the copper was clean. The line from the pole to my house was replaced at the beginning of last year, and it connects into the grounding block/splitter from where another new line goes straight to the modem.

Signal levels downstream look ok, but upstream signal levels can fluctuate. When all is well they're in the high 30s, but right before my disconnect/reboot happens they'll creep up to high 40 or low 50s. When that happens I know it's that time...

I have a tech coming out tomorrow, but I don't have high hopes that they'll do anything other than recommend I use their modem.

Any suggestions as to what else I can try/do?

Thanks!

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

You have a 4G AT&T LTE phone?

It may be trashing 705 mHz which is also the modems home channel.

Keep it away from the modem and coax

repost levels a couple hours after resetting the modem...need to see the corrected tables

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

I do have AT&T LTE phones, but they don't usually come within 20 feet of the modem. The connection issues also continue when no one's home and there are no phones anywhere in the house.

I've just rebooted the modem and will post updated levels later tonight.

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

it goes into the high 40s, because cmserver say kick it up I can't hear you, I would bet you have some sort of noise coming in your line through a cut, they need to put a meter on it to look for noise, and trace it to the pole if you cannot find anything in your house like loose cables,, etc.

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

One of my worries also is that I'm the last house on the line. The pole with electrical/phone/cable terminates in my backyard so my modem probably has to deal who knows how many houses that are in front of me.

Have had one more outage since rebooting the modem, but no (un)correctables:

This indicates an intermittent signal level issue on one or more channels:

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

Tech came out and found that there was actually a splittler right after the grounding block (thought the splitter was the grounding block). He removed the splitter and then had a truck come out to change out the port on the pole that I was connected to. Will see how it goes because downstream and upstream signals are now borderline high and low from what I read on the forum. I've cleared the log and will monitor everything for a few days.

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

705 is no longer the home ch and whatever was shaking the level 3-4 db has hopefully been removed. I w ouldn't worry about the levels yet, see if there's an improvement

If not, you might need a 6 dB pad in line

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

Things have been rock solid. No disconnects/reboots, not a single entry in the modem log, no uncorrectables and very few correctables. As long as the high downstream power doesn't fry my modem, I'm a happy camper! :-)

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems - SB6141 and Netgear CM500

I'd rather see the +10 than 0dB levels, that gives you 10 dB more immunity to noise from LTE and broadcast TV ingress

You prossibly should have a 6 dB pad/ attenuator at the modem, but if it's working, leave it alone.

extra-open splitter ports are always an issue
