Video Too Dark

The video on the Apple TV 4K Spectrum app is way too dark. Looks like everything is only in 1080p as well. Any fix for the brightness? Trying to adjust the colors on TV is futile because all the black areas turn gray and it’s only the Spectrum app, so once you go to another app, you’d have to adjust all the TV settings again.

Oddly enough, we have another 4K TV with built in Roku, the colors are fine on that TV using Spectrum app on Roku.

If there is no fix, Probably going to cancel service and go back to YouTube TV or give Hulu TV service a try.

Your comment about the second TV suggests that the service and app are working correctly.

This points to a possible configuration or set up issue with the Apple TV.  On our test equipment, we have found that the picture is optimized when we select "Match Content" as follows (from Apple TV Support):

Go to Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content, then choose from the following:

  • Match Dynamic Range: Turn on to have Apple TV 4K match its output to the original dynamic range of content that you’re watching.
  • Match Frame Rate: Turn on to have Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD match its refresh rate to the original frame rate of content. This applies to content that's mastered at different frame rates, for example 24fps film-based content or other international content.

If you turn on either of these settings, Apple TV will attempt to automatically determine which dynamic ranges or frame rates your television supports.

If Apple TV can't determine which display formats are available, you need to verify which formats your television can display. To verify a format, go to Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content. Then select a format under Unverified Formats to run a short display test and verify that it displays correctly on your television.
