New Spectrum customer here. Install was 2 days ago, so I'm new.
Previous UVerse customer for 8 years and DirecTV for ten years before that. I was happy with both, but "price creep" forced a change.
We signed up for four DVRs. Installer encouraged me to install TWCTV app, saying I could control my DVRs with it and watch tv. That part of the app does not work for me. Those options are "grayed out". (I currently have a tech support ticket working on why the DVR manager is not working).
On my TWCTV website (from laptop), there is an option for "Device Connect". When you expand the selection, the text reads "Watch shows on any TV in your home by connecting with them here." TWCTV phone app simply has a menu line for "Devices".
This would lead me to believe that whatever content happened to be on that particular device would then be streamed to whatever device I was connecting with - phone, tablet, laptop. Is that what it is supposed to happen?
There is also an option to rename the devices, I'm guessing so you could label them Living Room, Master Bedroom, etc. The renaming feature presents itself, but throws an error message of "This device does not support re-naming at this time." on the website. I can rename the device from the phone app, but nowhere does it say to connect with the device.
Why would it be there, though?
As I mentioned earlier, I have an open support ticket and perhaps these two issues are related. I was just curious if A) my assumption on the streaming was correct and B) how to determine which box is which. The numbers appearing on the device list are not serial numbers.
Maybe it will all sort out when the DVR Manager comes online for me. The two App specialists on the phone did not know. They also sort of just left me hanging about a resolution. Will I just fire up the App one day and everything will work, or will I get a call or an email?
"device connect" allows you to change channels on cable boxes and dvr's via the internet, there is no remote viewing capability.
It should allow you to set up recording as well.
Depends what market you're in and what boxes you have. I can't control my DVR from the app either. I believe it comes down to what version of the on screen menu the box you have runs (I-Guide vs. Navigator). I-Guide boxes do not support the TWC app device renaming, DVR manager, etc features.
Thank you for the replies. I'm in Dallas/Ft Worth on a Spectrum package.
Well, that's a bummer. The installer made a huge push about the app and how it tied the whole service together. We got one new Black Motorola box and three GIGANTIC silver Motorola boxes after two black boxes did not work. (That worries me just a little.)
I'm thinking the silver ones are older...they look older...much older.
"Watch shows on any TV in your home by connecting with them here." is really confusing.
Literally, that says you can watch what is playing now. If not that, why is it there? So I can look to see what the kids are watching in the other room? I am tryng really hard to envision a scenario where I would rather "connect" on a laptop to change channels as opposed to just picking up a remote. Weird.
We'll see what Tech Support comes up with, I suppose.
I'm in Dallas as well, also on a Spectrum package. If the 8 year old SA box (I assume running I-Guide?) has some of the capabilities then it sounds more like it really depends more on the market. I was told about 2 years ago that, despite the barrage of commercials telling me so, that Dallas did not offer DVR control through the app. I guess it hasn't changed since then.
