Resolving slow browsing speed issues

[ Edited ]

There are many possible reasons why you are experiencing slow browsing. Here are commonly used steps that can improve your browsing speed:

  1. Restart the computer

Many of us leave our computer on, allowing it to sleep when not in use. Simply restarting your computer could resolve your slow browsing experience.

  2. Reboot the modem and router (if you are using one)

Rebooting your equipment will frequently alleviate slow browsing issues. Here's how:

    1. Locate and press your modem's reset button. If the modem doesn't have a reset button, you can achieve the same results by unplugging the power cable from the modem and router.
    2. Wait approximately one minute for the modem and router to reset. Or, if you unplugged the equipment's power cables wait one minute before plugging them back in: modem first and then router.
    3. If you are using a router, allow two minutes for the router to “sync” (i.e., reconnect) with the cable modem. Otherwise, wait until the lights on your modem return to their normal configuration.
    4. Test your connection.

  3. Limit cache size

To speed up your browser, try going into your browser settings and checking the size of your cache/disk space to use for temporary Internet files. The recommended disk space to use for your cache/temporary Internet files is 50MB-250MB. Increasing the size of your cache/temporary Internet files may improve the speed of your back button and the display of graphics and banners.

  4. Use bookmarks

By bookmarking your most frequently visited websites, you can quickly load those websites.

  5. Test your speed

If the above suggestions fail to address your slow browsing, you may have an Internet connection issue.
