Do residential subscribers provide a "TWCWifi" hotspot?

The stuff I've read from TWC say that the hotspots are provided by business and other

public spaces.  My question is this - under what circumstances do private residential

subscribers provide a hotspot?  What is the association?

Residential customers show up on the coverage map with a blurred blue

dot.  Here, for example

THanks for any info

yeah, TWC  wifi hotspot rumor was the guest accounts on customer modems were going to be used but that created issues with the next door neighbors getting free internet.

The 500,000 included partners some of which pulled out when Charter toook over.

Most hotspots are a seperate modem and Ruckus 2.4& 5.8 gHz AP

What guest account? Is this something I can see in the setup pages somewhere at 192.168.0.1 ?
Is there a visible SSID accessible to devices?

You CANNOT access it to change it... The TWC wifi hotspots are a dedicated IP addy and seperate from the customers in all cases.  they route to an authentication server.  If you have TWC biz clzss you also get a twc wifi hotspot for "free"

OK. Even if they were accessible to the "Neighbor", at least they would only be getting a
free trial (for an hour) and not constant access, OR they would have a TWC account and they already
have their own stuff

Were TWC really considering turning this on at the residential level ?
I just find it odd that TWC private homes show up on the map I mentioned.

If you read across various forums and articles around the internets there is a lot of

confusion on this very subject

Residential accounts are not used for the TWC WiFi Hotspots.

If you take a look at the legend it shows the blurred circles are TWC WiFi Outdoor locations.

The TWC WiFi Indoor are from Business Class accounts that have opted to provide this access.

Hope that helps.

Hi Julia -

"outdoor locations" - what does that mean ? It seems to imply that a wifi hotspot

is available  near that premises. - to somebody standing in the street,  for example.

I believe it when you say residential accounts do not provide the TWCwifi hotspot.

But then I have to question why they are even on that map

An address is provided as a locator, for navigation to the spot where the service

is available.

They are not tied to any residential service. Those are outdoor TWC WiFi HotSpots.

Julia,

I clicked on one of those hotspots and found my own address,

designated as an "outdoor location"

If it's not a hotspot why is it on the map ?

Do you see an actual TWC wifi signal on your devices? If so, turn off your modem and see if it's still there.
