DG1670A and Linksys Router not getting full speed.

What settings are needed on my Linksys BEFSX41 router to get full speed (65 mbps down) out of cable modem? Laptop plugged into modem directly I get full speed, but when laptop is plugged into router, I only get 8 - 10 mbps down.

Try to change the channel numbers on your router. If you dont know how, call linksys so they can walk you thro. If you have direct connect and get the speed, then you know its the router at that point.

is the 1670 in  bridged mode or nat?

Why do you have that router and are you trying to use it's VPN functions?

This ancient wired router-only goes back to 2007 and the ethernet ports are 10/100 dual speed but NOT auto-sensing.  You have to set the WAN port specifically to 100 Mbps half duplex.  I can't tell from the quick setup (printed on lambskin scrolls) whether the four LAN switch ports can be set independently from the WAN or must follow the WAN port setting.  I suspect that astro3ron has the WAN set at 10H or 10D, so the modem won't spit out data any faster than that for downloads.
