ASUS CM-16 modem to save on lease. Correct configuration with Phone?

Currently have a bridged emta phone modem, with ASUS WiFi router. Cable goes from wall, to 3-way splitter. From there, to DVR and emta modem. Open port is terminated.

If I purchase this ASUS modem, do I connect emta to currently terminated port and new modem to WiFi router. Is this correct configuration?

Thanks!

Yeah, put the new data modem on the -3.5 port as it's lower loss than the -7's...

Thank you, MsRaye.

My signals are great right now, without issues. Can a change like this mess with my signals?

I would put the new modem on the empty -7 port in your case.... You'l also see an US level around +46 which is fine.  Levels on the existing EMTA are optimal!Woman Happy

I prefer to see DS levels around +5 rather than the +9 that you'd see on the -3.5 port...

DVR/Cable boxes aren't as critical

MsRaye, Thank you. One more question.

Will either of those 7 dB ports produce the same signals for the emta?

Reason I ask, easier for me to swap new modem at current emta location and put emta in another location. Don’t have enough room in emta current location for two modems.

Doesn't matter as long as coax and connectors are good.

Main issue is to find a jack to backfeed the house phone wiring...

Thanks.

I ended up going with the Arris SB6183. I did some reading and it appears the the Asus CM-16 has the puma 6 chipset, which has had some issues.

Appreciate all your expert help, MsRaye.

Re: ASUS CM-16 modem to save on lease. Correct configuration with Phone?

MsRaye,

I just wanted to let you know, everything went perfect. Installed new Arris 6183 modem and was activated easily. Moved my phone modem to the other port. Signals are just like you said they would be on -7 port with new modem.

The Arris pairs well with my Asus router. Everything has been rock solid. Nothing in the logs for days. Best part, $10 modem lease is history. Since I got the Arris brand new for $40, it will pay for itself quickly. I’m on TWC legacy, in a bulk account community, so it’s likely I won’t be switching over to Spectrum for awhile.

Thanks for all your help!
