“Whole Home Enhanced DVR”

Prior to the merger with Charter Communications, Time Warner Cable had a whole home DVR solution. I understand that their is a “cloud-based DVR” is being tested in some markets, but I really like the Whole Home Enhanced DVR in the markets where the cloud based DVR is not Please Charter hear my concern. Investing in a TiVO soliution will only allow recordings to be watched, but not live TV, Please Charter consider brining back the Whole Home Enhanced DVR. Thank you.

Hey Arty,

Good news on this front!  Regardless of whether you are on a legacy TWC package or a Spectrum package, you will be able to keep your existing whole house DVR.  The only thing that Spectrum will not do is that if you move, they will do new installs on WHDVR, but if you switch to a Spectrum plan, the monthly box rates are cheaper than TWC.

The goal of Cloud based DVR won't be Tivo based or anything like that.  It will change how shows and series are stored on the boxes.  Right now, any time you have to swap out your DVR, you lose everyone of your shows, series, and box settings.

Cloud-based DVR is going to change that because all of your shows and series, and eventually settings will be pinged to your account, not to the box.  Therefore, when cloud service comes out and you get a new DVR, once activated, the cloud will bring your shows to the box so you don't have to reprogram everything all over again!

Remember, the one problem with WHDVR is the inability to pause playback on the non-DVR boxes.  So it's not really a true Whole House experience.  Spectrum wants to approach this where every device that you connect to has the same guide and user experiance.  Provided that you have DVR service, the long term goal is to have all DVR functionality in the cloud so that your DVR box, your computer, your Phone, your app, everything will be able to save and store your shows in the cloud no matter where and how you watch them.

Your computer and phone may have to meet minimum hardware requirements for a smooth transition, but the point by moving services to the cloud, is that every device under Spectrum would be able to record, playback, and save show content through streaming.  It is likely that within five years, certainly ten years, you won't even need a DVR box as its known today.  You will still need to have the ability to "store shows and series" on your account, but it will all come from the cloud on any device.

Cloud DVR is really just a version of On Demand.

Can you explain what you mean in the statement "TIVO solution will only allow recordings to be watched, but not live TV"?  I have a TiVo Bolt in the living room and a Mini in my bedroom and watch live tv all the time in both locations.

Re: “Whole Home Enhanced DVR”

i belive you can hook up to 10 rooms but only two of those rooms would be live t.v. and the other rooms would be stuff that you recorded only

Re: “Whole Home Enhanced DVR”

Minis feed off of the main TiVo box's tuners...so with my 4 tuner Bolt I can:

  • Watch live tv in 4 separate rooms
  • Watch live tv in 3 rooms while recording 1 show
  • Watch live tv in 2 rooms while recording 2 shows
  • Watch live tv in 1 room while recording 3 shows
  • Watch recordings while recording 4 shows

There are 6 tuner Bolts as well.

Re: “Whole Home Enhanced DVR”

you can also network more than one tivo together so that they can see each other as well
