Which is the better dvr box?

I currently have the option of upgrading to a new DVR, choices are a Cisco 8742HDC or a Cisco 9865HDC. HDMI output on the dvr will be passing through my Denon receiver which is Dolby 5.1. Which box should I go with and why?

Well...the 9865 has 6 tuners. If they are all available go for that one, otherwise you'll see no real difference.

The newer one...

8742's are obsolete...

If you're a new customer, Spectrum won't activate 6 tuner DVR's or even supply them.. I'm surprised that you have a choice, it's unusual...

Thanks for the replies, i'm having issues getting the 5.1 to work with the 9865. I'm only getting FB the front l & r are playing. My setup is dvr hdmi > receiver out hdmi> tv.

I use optical audio out and it works.  /Dan

I find it easier to use HDMI to connect everything to the TV, then use HDMI or optical to connect TV to receiver.

Unfortunately I only have one input with upscaling so I only use that port.

Use the TV's ARC out port to go to the receiver...

I play my Netflix app off of my tv and use that out put to my receiver.
