Series recording

Does anyone know why my cable box skips episodes of a series? I have the show Trial and Error scheduled to record all shows. Last night, the box skipped two episodes, but has them to be recorded next week. What gives???

Thanx

Hello,

If you have Series Recording set to "All Episodes" and an episode did not record there could be several reasons for this:

1.) There was a conflict with another show at the same time- If so, your series would look for the next available showtime to record the episode.

2.) The show was not available due to a guide update.- Data in the guide is updated frequently.  Sometimes a listing will change.  If the guide calls a show "Mysteries of the Deep" and the name gets changed to the "The Mysteries of the Deep" the show will not be available.

3.) The station was not available due to SDV conflicts- SDV stands for "Switched Digital Video" which is a process that allows a cable provider to add more channels without increasing the bandwidth on a system.  The thing is that, if a ton of people record an SDV channel at the same time, and the SDV slots are full, you will get a "The Settop was unable to record the program."

4.) There may be a signal issue in your area where the channel is pixilating or at times not coming in- The DVR tries to record it, but can't and gives up try to do the recording.  If this happens frequently for a show or series, you will need to contact Spectrum for a signal and drop line test.

You will need to avoid resetting any equipment (cable boxes, modems, or routers) for six hours prior to your service call so that the error codes for the signals are not reset.  The tech will visit, read the error codes, and replace the wiring, drop line or tap.  The customer should tune to the problematic channel when the tech is there for the signal reading.

Exchanging the box will NEVER solve a signal problem.  This issue is in the wiring outside or inside the home the drop line, or the tap on the pole.

Thanx for the response, but I dont any of your suggestions are the case. There were no conflicts, A guide update in Primetime? I am not having any signall issues. All channels are clear. No problems at all.

There can be cases in isolated instances where the DVR decides not to record for unknown reasons.  Let us know what happens next week!  For reference, what is the series who's episodes got skipped?

No problem,

Don't forget that just about everything is On Demand two days after the network airing.  Somestimes it can be longer, it's the network's decision.  As long as you subscribe to the channel in your package, its On Demand content is included automatically.

A great option if your DVR does something strange on a recording.
