Samsung DVR error code E3 (resolved 5/2018)

I had problems with my main DVR box accessing on demand earlier today.  (my other moto box worked fine) I reset it twice,  still comes up with E3.  I called tech support, they are saying its an issue with ALL Samsung DVRs???  I was advised to schedule service, which I did. (not until Tuesday!) in the meantime the box doesnt work and just continuosly reboots.  They advised it may fix itself, but I should keep the appointment just in case its a signal issue.  That makes ZERO sense.  Thanks Spectrum.  Sling TV is looking better and better.  Come on greenlight!

Hello,

Some confusion here.  Are you seeing the E-3 code in the box window where the clock is, or are you seeing the E-3  error  on the On Demand screen itself?  If you are seeing E-3 as an error code on the On Demand channel, that is an issue with On Demand.  If you are seeing an issue with E-3 in the box clock's window. that is a box problem,

Power off the box and unplug it, allowing it to reboot.  When the clock comes back on the screen allow thirty minutes for any updates to take place and try again.

Regardless if the box reboots again or if On Demand works or not after this, I would recommend that you keep your service appointment.  You may have a signal or drop line issue that the tech should check.  Bad signals or drop lines are the number one reason for On Demand not working.  Try not to reboot your devices, such as modems, boxes, or routers for six hours, so that the tech can get an accurate reading of the signal codes.

Note that excessively rebooting boxes are almost always box issues that require a swap.  Unless your signals are really low forcing the reboots.  Pixilation, On Demand not working, are almost never box issues, and are almost always signal and line issues.

Watch the box after the cold reboot and as I said keep your appointment regardless..  Post back after your appointment!

E3 is on the box window.  The box seems to be stuck in a reboot loop.  It will display E3 after reboot for about 10 minutes and then start the reboot again all on its own.  Let me guess, Samsung issued an update that has an issue?

Close,

Spectrum issued an update to a Samsung box that has an issue.  Try my suggestions above.  Report back if that changes or improves anything.

After about  an hour and a half, the box came back online.  All works as it should at the moment, including on demand.  I will still keep my service appointment to have things checked out anyway.

I briefly had a Samsung box last year and it was painfully slow to boot. I have never had a box take that long, even the 20 year old SA and Moto boxes back in the day.

Woke up this morning to my DVR doing the same thing. Stuck on E-3 with endless reboots.

Me too. On the 5th reboot cycle so far since I first tried to watch as of 830am this morning. Ancient box upstairs has no issues, but was hoping to catch up on some DVR today.

Did your service appointment yield any insight to what caused the reboot loop? Is your box still functioning since it corrected itself?

Looping reboot is the key for this one.  Spectrum did recently start pushing out an update that has a bug.  Call the Tech support line, they were told about it and can refresh your box using the corrected version within about 30 minutes.
