Hey folks, going to get rid of my tw home telepone, and want to port the number to a cell phone? Any guidance and experience, I don't want to cancel the service and lose the number before it ported... any how thanks in advance for any info.

You are correct, if you cancel first, the number can be lost. You want to contact the new provider and you will need to prove you own the number, usually with a copy of a bill. You start the process and the new provider will contact us to initiate the port. Once the port is complete, you can contact our billing team or visit a TWC store to ensure the phone charges are off the account. Please let us know if there are any additional questions.

Just PORTED-OUT of TWC->VZN Wireless it took 3 days.
You need to give VZN the TWC account name, number, and password and cross your fingers it works. When it is completed, you can call your old port-out # and it will say welcome to VZN Wireless. At that point you can turn on your wireless phone, do over the air programming if necessary, and it should have your TWC # working.
