Can't get premium channels on new digital adapter

I just got my new digital adapter.  I cannot get channels like Science Channel, Smithsonian, and BBC America with new adapter.  I pay for them and get them on my HD box.  When I ordered the adapter,  I was told I could get all the channels I was paying for with the new adapter.  I can't.  Calls to Spectrum are all automated, so I cannot get a live person, no matter how much I try.  They say they will call back because they are so busy, but they don't.  Now when I try to get them to call back, I get a message to schedule a service appointment.  I don't need that.  All I want is to find out how to get the channels I am paying for on my free ($6.99 a month after one year) digital adapter. I'm tired of calling Spectrumand getting recorded messages and no one to solve the problem.  Please tell me how to get the channels i am missing.

Greetings,

Unfortunately, some of the channels now mandate a move to renting a cable box from Spectrum.  This is because of the move to an all-digital network and more and Internet interactions between the cable boxes and the servers.  Remember, that Spectrum's help with tuning adapters is very limited, because it's a third party software that is not theirs.

What is your current service level with Spectrum?  My advice would be to visit a Spectrum store and ask about a deal on getting a cable box from them.  You will be able to get all the channels you need from them.  Customers have reported better deals at the in-person stores than calling over the phone.

The cable box I have did come from Spectrum.

I would speculate that your DTA also was provided by Spectrum as part of their digital encryption conversion, free of charge only for the first twelve months.  The monthly charge for a second cable box is not much more than the DTA after the first year.  It will give you a lot more features and channel access possibilities.

Just to nitpick a bit...digital adapters and tuner adapters aren't the same thing.

  • Digital adapters are what is required if your area is now encrypted (you previously plugged the coax straight from the wall to the tv and it worked).
  • Tuner adapters are what is required if you are using a CableCARD device and your area has SDV enabled.

Not all areas are 100% encrypted yet.
