Wifi regularly drops

Hello, I'm having this recurring issue with my Time Warner wifi. Ever since I got the service at my new house last month, the wifi will drop out periodically for anywhere from 15 sec to 2 min and then work again. These drops can occur quite often, sometimes every 10 min or so. I've contacted TimeWarner service several times and each time they've remotely changed some settings on my modem/wireless network. It may work temporarily, but it never works permanently. A tech also came out and replaced some coax connections and verified that all the wiring looked good out to the street.

Here are my details:

Re: Wifi regularly drops

Don't use wireless.. It's not going to work without a decent access point, router, mounted in a central point with no interference.

Re: Wifi regularly drops

Is it only the wifi that drops and wired connections stay active or do your wired devices also drop connection when the wifi drops?

Re: Wifi regularly drops

I don't have any wired device connections to the modem. Also, and I'm not positive about this, but it appears that this is only an issue on my MacBook Pro. The only other device connected to the wireless is my phone and it doesn't appear to have issues when service drops to the MacBook. I don't have wireless connectivity issues with the MacBook on any network other than my home network.

Re: Wifi regularly drops

To clarify, are you saying that to resolve this issue I need to use my own wireless router (separate from the Gateway that Time Warner provided)? Or can re-positioning the TWC Gateway solve the issue?

Re: Wifi regularly drops

Change the DHCP start in the router from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.100 That fixes some apple issues. Set DHCP lease for a day not an hour.

Get the router up and away from everything

Use an ethernet cable on the macbook.

Wireless generally sucks. It is never a fix all and rarely is reliable in dense housing

Re: Wifi regularly drops

Thanks - appreciate the suggestions and so far, so good. I get that wireless sucks compared to ethernet but it does seem odd that I'm only having this "momentary drops" issue for this one device on this one network. I live in a single family home with my computer on the same floor (but separate room) from the TWC Gateway. I've just now moved it higher up and away from impediments (although there's nothing I can do about the walls) so maybe that will help. But you don't think (other than the DHCP mods you mentioned) that there's anything else going on here besides general wireless suckiness?

Re: Wifi regularly drops

Anything like bluetooth, wireless camera's, baby monitors, microwave oven or cordless phones active when this drops?

I'm not seeing a scan interference issue in the log, you can try locking it onto a different channel, if there's problems on the usual 1-6-11 then lock it to ch 3 or 8 but well away from the channel that has interference. See if a wireless scan ap shows low congestion somewhere.

Also try turning IPv6 off as well as IP flood detect , cloud storage, Itune sync, etc.

Mac should have a resource monitor to see if there's IP vs processor overload

Re: Wifi regularly drops

Fluorescent lights can be a common issue as well. If the router is sitting on a desk right next to a lamp using fluorescent bulbs, it can cause issues (I know this from experience).
