to fix the horrible lag spikes that have been plaguing the Arris SB6190. Any news?

This is the TWC forum, no help on Charter issues....
My advice is return it and get a 6183 instead.

None of the forum volunteers would know the precise timeline. A modem firmware patch has to come from the modem vendor (was Motorola, now Arris) and then be thoroughly evaluated by Charter/TWC/Brighthouse/Spectrum before it gets pushed out to user devices. Spectrum does not buy the SB6190 to lease to their subscribers so there's no compelling need for them to perform that testing any time soon. The elapsed time period usually starts at about six months, but could take two to three times that long when tech is busy merging three cable and internet companies into one with ten times as many problems.
