Re: Motorola SB6121 and TWC 100 mbps

on your 2.4 ghz band set 802.11 mode to highest possible, excluding lower letters. for example (in order of speed, highest to lowest)

  • n only
  • n and g
  • n, g and b

I don't recommend enabling b.

speeds:

802.11b : 11 Mb/s

802.11g : 54 Mb/s

802.11n : 600 Mb/s

Re: Motorola SB6121 and TWC 100 mbps

  • interesting you are getting 75 down with a 4x4 modem.
  • previous data had been 1x1 would go to 20, 4x4 to 50, 8x4 to 100 and 16x4 to 300.
  • so now the 4x4 goes to 75.

  • thinking out loud (provisioning), if 1x1 go to 20, implies 4 ->80, 8->160, 16->320.
  • the interesting implication is that twc may have another provisioning point at 150 that the 8x could support. (just theory, of course.)

twc had first allowed the 6121's in NYC to run at 100 down but then changed them all to 50 down

it appears the design point is to provision no more than about 1/2 the max bandwidth.

Re: Motorola SB6121 and TWC 100 mbps

I got off the phone with their billing department last week cause I decided to stay on the 30/5 out here. They asked their tech support and they said I was eligible to get 100/5 with the modem I have. Are they just saying that to get you to upgrade then?

They will provision 6121's up to 50/5, you need a newer 8x4 to go to 100/10 and a 16x4 for 300/30 speeds

Re: Motorola SB6121 and TWC 100 mbps

I have the SB6121 and got upgraded a couple weeks ago. I'm getting 100/10 on speedtest.net. I'm not too concerned about the download but upload is nice since I have a NAS at home and can stream. A TWC person told me that it would go to 200 in Jan or Feb? I could have misheard but does that mean I have to move to the 6141 to get use of the newer speeds?

Re: Motorola SB6121 and TWC 100 mbps

twc screwed up, they're only supposed to set the 6121's for 50/5, the 6141's for 100/10 and 6183's for 200-300/20

Don't complain...
