Re: Low Level of a single DS QAM Carrier

Sorry, won't be a trap as it's not deep enough. There also weren't single channel traps used above 400 mHz(ch 52) or so. Goes back to the days of single showtime/ hbo channels pre-1990.

I'd do a factory reset on the modem, see if you get a sequential channel lineup other than the first channel, post it here. Then 8 hours or so later, repost the level page as well as the error log page to see what's impaired and why channels were skipped...

It will yield more data than calling twc and having them "send 'useless' signals to reset the modem"

Re: Low Level of a single DS QAM Carrier

So the Spectrum tech showed up and spent 2+ hours doing his stuff (both outside and inside). I pointed out all the issues (I also had a STB video breakups). At the end, the STB issue had been fixed, but the cable modem carriers situation looks pretty much the same:

 1 Locked QAM256 5 531000000 Hz 4.1 dBmV 44.1 dB 0 0
2 Locked QAM256 6 537000000 Hz 4.1 dBmV 44.1 dB 0 0
3 Locked QAM256 7 543000000 Hz 4.1 dBmV 44.0 dB 0 0
4 Locked QAM256 8 549000000 Hz 4.2 dBmV 44.1 dB 0 0
5 Locked QAM256 9 555000000 Hz 4.2 dBmV 44.0 dB 0 0
6 Locked QAM256 10 561000000 Hz 4.2 dBmV 43.9 dB 0 0
7 Locked QAM256 11 567000000 Hz 4.2 dBmV 43.9 dB 0 0
8 Locked QAM256 12 573000000 Hz 4.2 dBmV 43.8 dB 0 0
9 Locked QAM256 13 579000000 Hz 3.1 dBmV 42.7 dB 0 0
10 Locked QAM256 14 585000000 Hz -4.6 dBmV 37.9 dB 1 0
11 Locked QAM256 15 591000000 Hz 1.7 dBmV 41.5 dB 0 0
12 Locked QAM256 16 597000000 Hz 3.7 dBmV 43.9 dB 0 0
13 Locked QAM256 19 615000000 Hz 5.2 dBmV 44.4 dB 0 0
14 Locked QAM256 20 621000000 Hz 5.3 dBmV 44.4 dB 0 0
15 Locked QAM256 22 633000000 Hz 5.3 dBmV 44.2 dB 0 0
16 Locked QAM256 24 645000000 Hz 5.5 dBmV 44.4 dB 0 0

I already did a factory reset of the modem that didn’t help. Also, after re-booting the modem, sometimes I get a selection of carriers without the 585 MHz that looks nice and even. But for whatever reason, after an hour or so the carrier selection always includes the 585 MHz (at least that what I observed thus far).  I started to think it could be the SB6183 modem so I may purchase another one (possibly of a different brand) just to satisfy my curiosity. Any recommendations for a stable and robust unit on TWC/Spectrum system in San Diego?

Re: Low Level of a single DS QAM Carrier

Take the modem to a friends house and see if you get the same thing... What's your exact zip code so I can do a signal level lookup?

Re: Low Level of a single DS QAM Carrier

I'll bet the log is showing DS or RCS partial service errors as well.

Also there are skipped channels....

Doesn't look like a modem issue.

My zip code is 92130.

Re: Low Level of a single DS QAM Carrier

So... did said tech find this frequency attentuation to be like that at the tap?  What was found at the tap?  Did he even go to the tap?

I'm leaning towards a maintenance issue at this point, where a sweep is needed, but without knowing if it's like that at the tap or not... is like... Grr Arrg!

My postings on this site are my own, off-the-clock, and don’t necessarily represent TWC’s/Charter's strategies or opinions.

Re: Low Level of a single DS QAM Carrier

He spent considerable time outside but I don’t know whether he went to the tap or just to the junction box on the side of my house. I showed him the carrier map on my iPad and indicated that some expert forum members thought it was abnormal. Before he left I showed him the map again and that was it. Since there were no errors on the low level carriers I did not push the point.
