...and again.  Three Partial Service Fallback> Docsis 3.0 Recovery Mode in 3 hours.  I'm now down to 6  downstream channels, from 8, then 7.  Have a fallback each time I lose a channel without picking up another.  This is unacceptable.

Looking through the old TWC approved modem list I have in PDF, they had some Ambit Ubee modems on the list at one time and it was what they used for their rental modems before they switched to Arris.  I was googling, and found this old review on Amazon of one the the 8-channel Ambit Ubee modems.  It describes the exact same issue I am having using the 8-channel Arris SB6141, and in his case, TWC tried to blame the modem as well. 

The first paragraph is his update where they finally fixed his lines and the modem worked fine, the second two paragraphs is his original review, describing the same issue my 6141 has.

 

I could have a bad modem..... BUT this just further suggests that the issue occurs with 8-channel modems which drop channels with interference, leading to the Service Fallback and reduced speed.  16-channel modems act differently and avoid the issue.  SO, WHY do they continue to list these modems as approved modems if they only work correctly on perfect lines?

I have said this MANY TIMES BEFORE!

"THROWING MODEMS AT A LINE ISSUE IS FRUITLESS"  some work slightly better than others but the underlying issue is the ingress!

 

If everything from the modem to the street tap off is new, YOU HAVE INGRESS PROBABLY OUT ON THE STREET SOMEWHERE

 

Call TWC back out, get this escallated to the bucket truck guys...

I did, a week ago.  The bucket truck guys apparently told the tech who came here that there were some issues with neighbor's lines.  He can't tell me if anything was ever done with it.  I still have the issue with my modem, but not the 6183 loaner.  He now tells me he can't get any other modem to test with, and that's the only modem they use now, for all rental modem customers at all speed levels.  So I have no way to show him whether it is still broken with another 8-channel modem.  All he tells me is that it works with the 16-channel modem, so that's what I need to get!

I am beyond frustrated.  The only option they are giving me is to rent their modem, since it works "OK" with it.  I will not rent a modem from them.  That leaves me with buying a $100 modem I cannot afford for a service level that only requires a $50-$60 modem.

I KNOW throwing a modem at a signal problem isn't the answer!  How do I get the tech to do anything??

Know any ham radio operators? Maybe they could go and DF egress issues on the street and report them to TWC, usually egress points also are ingress points.

Need to look for afc  pilot leaks, usually at 445.250mHz. If you can receive it 30' from a pole on a handheld radio, that's way too much and at 100' exceeds FCC leakage specs

Well, I texted the tech, told him I can buy an Arris SB6141 or a Zoom 5345 at the local Best Buy (with their 15-day full refund policy), hook it up for a week and see if it does what my 6141 does.  If it does, I can return it for a refund, and that would prove it isn't my modem.  If it works correctly, that would prove my modem is bad, and my issue would be 'fixed'.  I thought this would be a good test, and readily acceptable to us both.

He replied that he is having his supervisor call me.  More waiting............

The supervisor called after 5pm and I missed the calls..... maybe he'll call tomorrow.  Meanwhile, like clockwork,3 Partial Service Fallbacks again, at almost the same time each night, and I dropped from 8 to 6 downstream channels, and speedtest is at half a Mbps again.  I had 8 channels all day (not always the same ones) and no issues till now.

OK....I'm back with an update of sorts.  I missed the original call from my tech's supervisor and he has not called back again.  So, I went to Best Buy which has a 15-day full return policy, and bought a brand new Arris SB6141 to see if it acts any differently than my older Motorola SB6141 that my tech keeps saying might be bad.  Nope.

 

The new modem is doing the exact same thing as the old.  I think this is proof they can't get around, that it's ingress and not my modem.  Maybe it only happens on lines with ingress with 8-channel modems but not 16-channel modems, but this is a TWC approved 8-channel modem and should work on their system unless they have a problem they need to fix.  So now I have to get the tech to get his supervisor to DO SOMETHING.

 

Here's the signal page and modem log from around midnight (the same time span when many of these issues occur), It dropped from 8 to 7 channels about 20 hours ago after a T3 Timeout.  Around midnight it's switched to another channel and logged a Partial service fallback> DOCSIS 3.0 Recovery Mode.  The modem picked up channel 16 which has a huge number of uncorrectables.  Nothing will finish loading online.  Speedtest dropped from the previous 58 Mbps down, to now only 1.39 Mbps.  Clearly, this is not my modem, which leaves what MsRaye has been saying as the ONLY possible cause that I can see.  Now how do I get them to do anything about it?

5, 8, 16 are real bad, those are broadcast tv channels  32, 35, & 43
