Why do we get news/weather from Charleston (65 miles away)? We want Myrtle Beach news (20 miles)

Hello fellow residents and visitors to the Pawleys Island, Litchfield Beach, Georgtown SC area.  On August 30, 2017 we lost access to the CBS affiliate from Myrtle Beach, known as WBTW shown on Spectrum channel 6.    We are now forced to watch news and weather from Charleston SC that lies 65 miles away.  This channel WSCS doesn't report on anything in our area and barely mentions our local weather.  It is an inadequate report of our weather to the point it does not meet safety standards for an area vulnerable to hurricanes and flooding.  Maybe because they know that we don't watch their news and weather because the Myrtle Beach stations are closer and make more sense for us to watch.   What do we need to do to get back our access to local news on WBTW?  Please speak up!!

You are getting the network affiliates assigned to your county by the Nielsen Ratings company (DMA's).  I live closer to Scranton, PA and can receive Scranton, PA TV signals Over-the-air (if I was on the top of the mountain, but alas - I am at the bottom of the hill), yet I am supplied TV from New York City becuase I am across the Delaware River and in NY State.

You don't always get the closest station, but the stations that serve your DMA.  However, if Charter has a retransmission agreement in place for this station, as it may be considered a "Significantly viewed" out-of-market station, they simply may have decided to stop carrying it in order to save money...

I recommend you erect an antenna to pick up the lost station.

WBTW is 63 miles away... per the above records at antennaweb.org

What channel is the CBS at 20 iles? I see none listed... I need the real broadcast call sign and channel not what it is on a cable box...

 What is your zip code?

This is worse than it sounds for us, we live about 500 yards from the Horry county line but still get all the Charleston stations.  The weather and safety is a mjor concern. We do get the MB ABC station in HD becasue they are owned by the same poele that own the Charleston ABC station. Both owend by Sinclair but that is another post for another time.  We get a SD version of the MB NBC station but only when it is not showing a network show, then it has a blue screen of death.  We get a SD version of Fox all the time and we just lost our SD version of CBS.  We also only get a SD version of the CW and it is almost unwatchable.  We live in a condo without an exclusive use area outside  so no dish and we face the wrong way to use a flat window antenna.  But the prices are still the same and Spectrum is taking channels away.

Sounds like a combination of Syndex exclusivity and network affiliates not wanted to pillage each other for viewers.

Someone will always be just short of the county line.  With what you write, there isn't much else you can do.  For your news and weather issues, turn to radio.  Or see if the station you seek actually streams their newscast.
