We can't believe you cut another channel (FOX#8)

We found out that you had discontinued another channel on Saturday Febuary 3rd and can't believe it. It's one of our favorite channels & then on our television you are running an ad saying it's there fault (NOT TRUE) !!  You just raised our rates $5.00 a month for absolutely no reason ?? They don't have a right to raise their prices ; you do it constantly ! We always thought Time Warner Cable was bad but boy we were wrong; we wish we could have them back. You just don't care about your customers & just keep taking away & raising your prices & believe people will just take it. Your making a noose & soon you'll have no customers left including us ! THANKS FOR NOTHING !

The major television networks / broadcast station owners are monetizing and leveraging their ability to obtain "retransmission fees" from cable television subscribers.  TWC and Spectrum actually break this amount out on your bill.  It is now $8.85 per month, in addition to the list price for your TV package, to receive essentially what broadcasters give away for free to those with an antenna.

Now, with your Fox station disappearing, many things may have caused this:

1.  There has been a carriage dispute.  I doubt this is the case, becuase both sides would be running mud-slinging ads on the channel - Fox telling you to switch providers; Spectrum telling you they are trying to keep costs down.

2.  Your local FOX Station went off-the-air.  They may have surrendered their FCC license in the recent spectrum (no pun intented) auction for, what probably is hundreds of millions of dollars.  FOX is now probably being broadcast over-the-air locally on a different station's sub-channel, and Spectrum does not have the rights (yet) to retransmit.  Without knowing where you live (market), we cannot be sure.

3.  There are technical difficulties.  The feed from FOX to the cable head-end (where all the programming is assembled and sent to subscribers) blew a tire, and is under repair.  I'd phone the cable company and inquire.

TV ads are films and edited months in advance...  So seeing an ad which displays FOX being available on Spectrum may be out of date - or it could be a national ad, which may disagree with what is available in your market.

Is your station listed here?

The BroadcastTV surcharge went up in January to $8.85.  The cost of renting equipment went up $1 or so per month, and the cost of StarterTV went up almost $4 in some markets.  I posted back in December warning of the increases, which were announced on your Decemvber bill.  Many people don't read all four pages of their bill, where these increases are disclosed in advance.

This is ongoing in the rochester/syracuse markets. There have been at least 5 channels to go off in the last 4 months. Channel 8 out of Rochester, and the channel 6 Fox station. There are others that are in the 1250 area. But to blame it on a contract dispute with the supplier and cut the channels is beyond belief.

The legitimate business way of doing it is to continue with negotiations while still transmitting (paying for) the channels. Spectrum is hoping that their irate customers will do the fighting for them by having the customers complain to the FCC and the supplying transmitter.

This is the problem when their is no competition. To say 'just put an antenna up' is idiotic. Many of us live in valley area's where you can't even get decent radio reception. And the satellite option is the same, need that clear view to the satellite! Come on Spectrum, put your big boy pants on and live up to the aggrement you made with us, your customers. Bite the bullet, take a little less in your take home pay and put the channels back on.
