It would be difficult to tell whether or not your friend would be responsible for the replacement cost of the modem. I would ask your friend to contact us directly so we can review this and if necessary escalate to our local contacts.
Your friend is welcome to post on these forums if that is easiest for him.

So my friend damaged his modem recently acidentally dropping it it still works 100% but if u shake it the internal parts are loose will he be charged for modem damage?
