Best security settings for router

TW Cable has provided me with an Arris combination modem & router. I want to make sure the settings are correct for the best security. When I log into the web site for the Arris router I see these settings on the "Firewall" tab:

Firewall Enable/Disable CHECKED

DoS Attack Protection UNCHECKED

Block Pings UNCHECKED

IPSec Pass Through CHECKED

PPTP Pass Through CHECKED

L2TP Pass Through CHECKED

Block Fragmented IP Packets UNCHECKED

What settings (if any) should be changed fo better security? I am not familiar with most of the terms on those lines, but I am concerned that "DoS Atack Protection" is unchecked.

On a related security topic, a TWC technician told me it was unwise to change the SSID network name and pre-shared key (password) from the ARRIS default, as it might slow down the connection. Has anyone heard about that?

Many thanks.

Re: Best security settings for router

Turn off WPS and change the ssid to something other than your name or phone number, both are security risks.

Re: Best security settings for router

Change SSID AND passcode for router(not web log in) as MSR says those settings you have shown should be ok,
